Alla soglia dei quaranta anni il protagonista si sente frustrato; non solo egrave; disoccupato; ma continua a vivere con la madre in una casa affollata di gatti; e non si sente realizzato nella vita. Cerca in qualche modo di sottrarsi ad una condizione di alienazione; ma allo stesso tempo sente il bisogno di fuggire da quella realtagrave; che lo opprime. Sua madre si egrave; stancata di avere a che fare con quei gatti impertinenti; che si intrufolano continuamente dentro casa; e vorrebbe eliminarli fisicamente. Cosigrave; il nostro protagonista pensa di affidarli ad un suo amico; che potrebbe occuparsene; ma questo ed altri tentativi di liberarsi di quei gatti fallisce. Crsquo;egrave; poi quella sensazione di solitudine che peggiora la sua condizione; cosigrave; inizia il suo percorso per sottrarsi a quello che lui chiama il nulla. Un suo compagno di scuola che abita in montagna; gli suggerisce di rivolgersi a Giacomo; il quale ha avuto diverse esperienze in Romania; tanto piugrave; che lo chiamano ldquo;Lo zingarordquo;. Ma anche questrsquo;ultimo non sembra sia proprio la persona idonea ad aiutare il nostro protagonista ad avere qualche informazione su quella nazione; dato che Giacomo non solo egrave; alcolizzato; bensigrave; anche un accanito fumatore. Giovanni capisce che quellrsquo;uomo non lo puograve; aiutare; e decide di tornare a casa dalla madre; ma ligrave; trova una sorpresa: suo fratello gli ha trovato un lavoro. Da quel momento per Giovanni si aprono nuovi scenari; ma quellrsquo;ambiente lavorativo non egrave; di suo gradimento; e dopo alcuni anni; la noia egrave; insopportabile; soprattutto a causa di un lavoro cosigrave; ripetitivo come quello della bollettazione. Inoltre il suo datore di lavoro non vuole concedergli nemmeno un giorno di relax; cosigrave; egli incomincia a pensare ad una alternativa; che perograve;; almeno in un primo momento; non riesce a trovare. Dopo vari tentativi di ottenere delle ferie che non gli vengono concesse; decide di abbandonare il lavoro. La mattina si alza al solito orario; ma invece di recarsi sul luogo di lavoro; decide di ritornare nella montagna della sua infanzia; dove aveva trascorso molte vacanze spensierate. Eppure; una preoccupazione lo assilla: forse in ditta lo stanno cercando; ma ormai Giovanni egrave; intenzionato a partire per la Romania. Il viaggio verso quella nazione egrave; lungo; e quando mette piede su quella cittagrave; al confine con lrsquo;Ungheria; si sente come paralizzato; ma ormai non puograve; sottrarsi a quella realtagrave;; molto diversa dallrsquo;Italia. Incontra donne; che in qualche modo cercano di guadagnare con lui; e dopo varie avventure non proprio edificanti; torna a casa. Un gatto gli si avvicina e lo riconosce; egrave; Corsaro; che non si egrave; dimenticato di lui.

A Must for Every Mockingbird FanBy Monica HeltonWhen I was growing up in Monroeville; I cared little about the history of my town or state. I read "To Kill A Mockingbird" and I loved it; but to me history was as far from Monroeville and Alabama as I could get. Years later after I grew up and came to my senses I learned to love the history of my town and state. "Monroeville The Search for Harper Lees Maycomb;" is a must for the diehard Mockingbird fan. Like its companion book "Monroeville Literary Capital of Alabama" it has lots of pictures and a short history of the town that was the childhood home of Harper Lee and her friend Turman Capote; who was the model for Dill in "Mockingbird." Included in the book is a chapter "The Mysterious Neighbor" about the man who was the real life "Boo Radley" in town. Like his fictional counterpart; he spent his life hidden away in his house and was the terror of the Monroe Elementary School whose grounds were behind his house. Like the children in the book; when my mother was a small child; she said that any ball kicked into his yard was considered a lost ball. The pecans that fell into the school grounds from trees in his yard were never touched by the children. There are also pictures of the Mockingbird Players who perform the play based on the book every year at the Monroe County Heritage Museum. The museum which once served as the Monroe County Courthouse; contains the courtroom which was used as the model for the courtroom in the 1962 movie version of the book starring Gregory Peck. Both books are recommended for anyone who wants to know more about the small town in southwest Alabama that gave birth to two of the most remarkable writers of the 20th century.27 of 27 people found the following review helpful. A must have for all Mockingbird fans!!By A CustomerWhile on a trip to the beach; I stopped off in Monroeville to visit the Mockingbird shrine. While there; I bought this book at the museum and was SO excited about the information that was found in it. There are so many similarities between the fictional Maycomb and the Monroeville in which Nelle Harper Lee grew up! For example; Monroeville; like Maycomb; had a strange citizen who got into trouble with the law when he was young and was locked up in his house by his father for years. This young man was never seen outside his house again and was considered a phantom by the town children; including Nelle Lee. The book will be a delight to all fans of the novel. I also strongly recommend a trip to Monroeville -- it will be well worth the time and effort for any true fan.
