This work provides an account of culture in an age of globalization. Ulf Hannerz argues that; in an ever-more interconnected world; national understandings of culture have become insufficient. He explores the implications of boundary-crossings and long-distance cultural flows for established notions of "the local"; "community"; "nation" and "modernity" Hannerz not only engages with theoretical debates about culture and globalization but raises issues of how we think and live today. His account of the experience of global culture encompasses a shouting match in a New York street about Salman Rushdie; a papal visit to the Maya Indians; kung-fu dancers in Nigeria and Rastafarians in Amsterdam; the nostalgia of foreign correspondents; and the surprising experiences of tourists in a world city or on a Borneo photo safari.

Did you know reptiles are tetrapods?By JMouchaSome very interesting facts about reptiles in general combined with colorful pictures make this a pretty good book. It is well written with very informative facts about reptiles in general. The pictures really grab the readers interest with their coloring and vibrancy. It is like seeing the reptiles in person and not on a page. I suggest reading this book on a device with a larger screen to take full affect of the amazing pictures. The reader gets to learn the all reptiles are tetrapods; meaning they have four legs and that snakes are tetrapods by descent. You also learn how long reptiles have actually been around and why a chameleon changes color. It is written in very easy to understand language for a young reader but is more for a bit of an advanced beginner at least due to the difficulty of some of the words. This book is enough to keep any childs attention without boring them and the pictures will captivate them. It is the right length to truly pique their interest in wanting to learn more about fascinating reptiles. With help; children can open a whole new world that might have never known existed. Just be ready to answer questions when they are finished reading the book.I would definitely recommend this book to be added to a childs library so they could go back to it time and again. The fact that this is a learning book makes it even better. Baby Professor really did a great job with this book. They have started to become pretty well known for their childrens books and this is a great example why. If you get the chance; you really should check into the other books by Baby Professor; the majority of them dont disappoint. All have great facts and a wonderful pictures.I received this at no cost in exchange for my honest review and it in no way affected my opinion about the book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great pictures but more detail about the animals would have been betterBy ElizabethAnother Baby Professor book with vivid pictures. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book.It seems the format for this book and most of the Baby Professor books have a picture with a paragraph and facts on the page. Then the next page is just a photo. It would be nice if they had another paragraph on that page as well. But again; since many are free its hard to complain. But overall; I do like this book and most of the others too for the awesome photos. The facts presented are nice but it would be better if the books went into more detail. Again they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes entertain a friends 3 year old daughter who loves to look through pictures on my phone. Next time we are together I plan on getting these books out and I cant wait to see which books she picks out.***** I received this ebook for free for my honest review. *****2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ROMEROThis book ldquo;Reptiles of the World; Fun Facts for Kidsrdquo; belongs to a Childrenrsquo;s book series published by Speedy Publishing. We love Speedy Publishing Childrenrsquo;s book series as they usually come with excellent photos and basic references that are quite suitable for the underage; for those small family members at home; for those parents who love to teach their children at home and this type of books serve well for teaching purposes at school too. This book refers about the many Reptiles which are a group of animals comprising todayrsquo;s turtles; crocodilians; snakes; lizards; tuatara and their extinct relatives.Beautiful photographs and short references about Alligator; Chamelleon; Cold-blooded Reptile; and many more fun facts that are well depicted on this book with high definition photographs in full color. As this book has beautiful; full colored; high detailed; photographs/pictures you may want to share with your kids and/or students as they can serve as point for further discussions or a way to develop language skill by promoting the children to express themselves about what they see and understand by looking at the photograph or picture.
