The first thing to know is that most of the play is written as a ballad. so. for the most part. there are no character assignments for lines like in most plays. The stage directions are also quite intriguing. While the stage directions of most plays simply give the blocking the stage director recorded for the first performance. such as "she walks DSL to table." the stage directions really dont dictate much of the movement in this play. Instead. they say things like "She falls through the years. Years and years. She falls from wild curiosity into a routine of work. She is caught." They almost seem like part of the ballad. I would recommend it to anyone who has seen it performed as it is a beautiful and thought provoking piece of theater. and reading it gives you the opportunity to really analyze it.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. If Its not Scottish. its Crap!!!By R. BlackthornI have seen Prudencia Hart 3 times in as many months in multiple cities. and will be driving five hours to Michigan to see it for a fourth time in January. Yeah. Its that good. This play is simply incredible. Its arguably the best thing to happen to the stage since Shakespeare. For me. this is better than Shakespeare. I wont spoil it for you. but the play does revolve heavily around a Midwinters night in Kelso. :)Go see it live with the current cast of Andy. Alasdair. Annie. David and Melody if you can. You can find details on the National Theatre of Scotlands website. If you cant make it to a show. at least pick it on the Kindle. Its simply magick.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I bought this because...By James GreenamyerI went to see the play in a pub here in D.C. where I live. It is performed by five actors. who double as musicians. and at times as the stage set. There is no stage; the play is performed in the midst of the audience. indeed with audience participation! It is hilarious. and profound. It is almost entirely performed in verse. except for a section in the second act where it is prose. It is a brilliant piece of theatre. so I bought the script because the language is an integral part of the plot. I highly recommend it.
