A Comprehensive Overview of the Web Development ProcessBy Jay RieckmannAs a principal at a small web design and marketing agency (for nearly the past 20 years) I have spent countless hours pouring over websites. white papers. webinars and the like to gain insight into other agencies and developers process for approaching web projects. Although my agency has our own development process. I am always open to new ideas and approaches for the delivery of our projects. That being said. Ive been a fan of Chris Butlers content and blog writing for quite sometime and was generally enthused to see him author a book on a subject he has written countless articles about. Knowing that his agency incorporates live prototyping and are heavily content focused I was eager to get a hold of his new piece. The Strategic Web Designer. gives a great overview of a proven development process. with enough detail for seasoned professionals to walk away with new insight and certainly a great asset to those new to website development or those who work in other agency roles and need a better understanding of how online projects should be approached. While I have read more detailed books on site development. Chris book takes a conversational tone. that hes known for. and breaks the process down into manageable phases. And the chapters on content and SEO are spot on.I highly recommend The Strategic Web Designer to professionals involved in any stage of the web design/development process.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. For the well-rounded developer.By Anne LuptonA refreshingly different read on the background planning that should go into every website building project. Developers tend to get into a very narrow focus of "we do it because we can" that can lead to cost overruns and an inappropriate product for the client. Taking a step back to see the big picture. and possibly seeing things from the clients perspective. should help every developer better websites. A nice addition to the well-rounded developers bookshelf (and yes. I recommend the paper version - it will help you slow down and really absorb these ideas).0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Condisiderations for RoadmappingBy Jenna FullerI subscribe to a lot of Graphic Design and Web Design mags and almost all of them have had to put their two cents on this book. So. I decided to give it a go and give my two cents. For those starting out in the industry as a freelance or even someone who is a little bit stuck or lacking in their own roadmap will find this book handy to address a few key points. Although. I would say some of these things are more "consider this" points. but a lot of it is practical.I gave this book four stars because I am spoiled by other books I have purchased and think the paper contents used in printing this could have been better. I also like my illustrations in color. but the information inside is good. Thanks HOW Magazine.
