My biggest gripe. however. is the treatment of a lot of the photos. For the sake of the book. some photos were altered by means of photoshop filters. etc. I have 3 concert program books of Metallica that are filled with Haflin photos. and many magazines with photos shot by Haflin. so I have seen most of the images included in The Ultimate Metallica book and know what photos have been altered. I feel the altering was completely unnecessary. Blowing out the contrast and adding a super-grainy effect to a photo doesnt make it more interesting-quite the opposite. I havent had a chance to read much of the text in the book. I bought it primarily for the photos. because what I thought this would be is a photo-documented timeline of some of the coolest Metallica moments. Its an okay book and if you havent been a fan for many years. like I have and you are not familiar with Haflins early work with the band. then you may enjoy this book. What I do like is Haflins very honest commentary about his experiences with the band. If he thinks Lars was being a dick. he is very upfront about it. His experiences with Metallica werent always very peachy. All in all. If you have magazines and other books with Haflins photography of Metallica. save your money.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
