In this book; Robert L. Stone follows the sound of steel guitar into the music-driven Pentecostal worship of two related churches: the House of God and the Church of the Living God. A rare outsider who has gained the trust of members and musicians inside the church; Stone uses nearly two decades of research; interviews; and fieldwork to tell the story of a vibrant musical tradition that straddles sacred and secular contexts.

Im always looking for more information about the origins of the various dances that make up partner dancing. Mark Knowles has done an incredible job researching the controversies and cultural shifts that evolved some of these dances to where they gained cultural maturity a half century ago. The depth of research surprised me. and the quality of writing with which Knowles presents his findings surprised me even more. A delight to read from start to finish.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy moncellExcellent. I highly recommend this book for those who want to know more how the dances of the 19th and 20th centuries impacted society. Very interesting and well-researched!
