Thomas Dewing: 70 Masterpieces

[DOC] Thomas Dewing: 70 Masterpieces by Maria Tsaneva in Arts-Photography

Description

In this intriguing book; E.H. Gombrich; who was one of the worldrsquo;s foremost art historians; traces how cast shadows have been depicted in Western art through the centuries. Gombrich discusses the way shadows were representedmdash;or ignoredmdash;by artists from the Renaissance to the 17th century and then describes how Romantic; Impressionist; and Surrealist artists exploited the device of the cast shadow to enhance the illusion of realism or drama in their representations. First published to accompany an exhibition at the National Gallery; London; in 1995; it is reissued here with additional color illustrations and a new introduction by esteemed scholar Nicholas Penny. It is also now available as an enhanced eBook; with zoomable images and accompanying film footage.

VasiliouAll of these series books have nice great pictures in the first half or so of the pages then page after useless page of phone book style listings of maker after maker. This info would be better put on a single "source" web page and be more up to date as well! BUT then this book would look more like a magazine than a book. You see this black and white w/little to no photos in the back of the book is cheap filler to make your magazine look like a book; we all did it in school; you know triple spacing; redundant verbage; etc. I still like these books simply because I buy them a year old and get them for magazine prices. To see one new knife design makes it worth the price.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Jay Millerthanks
