[audiobook] Thornton Dial: Thoughts on Paper by From The University of North Carolina Press at Arts-Photography

Description

What motivates theatre-makers who work in education? How can theatre respond to young peoples experiences of living in a globalised world?Theatre Education provides an insight into the energy; passion and values that have inspired the most inventive theatre-makers who work with young people in educational settings. It charts early debates that motivated twentieth-century radical theatre-makers to work with young people; and offers an analysis of contemporary practices. It argues that the aesthetic principles and educational ideals that inform theatre and education drive at the heart of why theatre matters. Foreword by Edward Bond

Essential Thornton DialBy BuffyThis is the only book devoted to the drawings and works on paper of Thornton Dial so is an essential volume for an Dial collector. The essays do a good job on describing the origins of Dials drawings and placing them within his overall practice. There are about 80+ full color reproductions including mostly drawings with some images of paintings and sculptures. Most of the drawings come from just a few collections so it feels somewhat limited in scope. Most are from 1990 or 1991 but since Dial made drawings until 2015 there should have been a braoder range. The reproductions are on a nice glossy paper and the hardcover binding is sturdy. Since there is no other drawing book on Dial this is recommended. Its enjoyable to see this important part of his work examined and hopefully there will be a more comprehensive volume published some day.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Dial on paper not to be missedBy david wellischFor those with an interest in outsider art this book is a must. This book focuses only on his works on paper.a critical niche in his art often ignored.
