Tioga and Collinsville (Images of America)

[audiobook] Tioga and Collinsville (Images of America) by Don Davenport; J.R. Davenport in Arts-Photography

Description

The vampire and the zombie; the two most popular incarnations of the undead; are brought together for a forensic critical investigation in Screening the Undead. Both have a long history in popular fiction; film; television; comics and games; the vampire also remains central to popular culture today; from literary lsquo;paranormal romancersquo; to cult TV and movie franchises - by turns romantic; tortured; grotesque; countercultural; a goth icon or lonely outsider. The zombie can shamble or; nowadays; sprint with alarming velocity; and even dance. It frequently lends itself to metaphor and can stand in for fascism or ecological disaster; but is perhaps most frequently a harbinger and instrument of the apocalypse.Leading writers on Horror and cult media consider the sexy vampire and the grotesque zombie; as well as hybrid figures who do not fit neatly into either category. These are examined across a range of contexts; from the Swedish vampire to the Afro-American Blacula; from the lesbian vampire to the gay zombie; from the Spanish Knights Templar riding skeletal horses to dancing Japanese zombies. Screening the Undead sheds new light on these two icons of terror - and desire - whose popular longevity has taken them lsquo;Beyond Lifersquo;.

Thats about all its worth0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great pics some good interviews; but misses the mark by a mileBy Unhinged17Great pictures and some excellent; insightful interviews of amp builders like Michael Zaite of Dr. Z and Mark Bartel from Tone King Amplifier Company. However; the author writes in a highly opinionated voice in a bonehead; "rawkin out" style; and the book contains poorly written chapters and a ton of typos. He obviously doesnt understand many of the technical aspects of amplifiers that he attempts to describe. Why go to all the bother to write a book and publish it in such a sorry state? Its also only 130 pages long - it should be about twice this for better; more extensive coverage of the subject. Aspen Pittman; Dave Hunter and Richie Fliegler have written many of the classics of the genre of guitar amplifier books. Too bad this author blew it so badly with this. Im shocked Michael Molenda would write a foreword to a book like this - his writing for Guitar Player magazine is excellent and authoritative. This book is not; its more like a teenagers overview of his favorite amps. I really wanted to like this book; and I was very excited when it appeared recently. Unfortunately; opportunity missed.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy awlpcstmLots of amplifier history.
