[ePub] Tolkiens Reise nach Mittelerde: Ein neuer Blick in die Welten J.R.R. Tolkiens (German Edition) by Christopher Snyder at Arts-Photography

Description

Preserving New York is the largely unknown inspiring story of the origins of New York City’s nationally acclaimed landmarks law. The decades of struggle behind the law; its intellectual origins; the men and women who fought for it; the forces that shaped it; and the buildings lost and saved on the way to its ultimate passage; span from 1913 to 1965. Intended for the interested public as well as students of New York City history; architecture; and preservation itself; over 100 illustrations help reveal a history richer and more complex than the accepted myth that the landmarks law sprang from the wreckage of the great Pennsylvania Station. Images include those by noted historic photographers as well as those from newspaper accounts of the time. Forgotten civic leaders such as Albert S. Bard and lost buildings including the Brokaw Mansions; are unveiled in an extensively researched narrative bringing this essential episode in New York’s history to future generations tasked with protecting the city’s landmarks. For the first time; the story of how New York won the right to protect its treasured buildings; neighborhoods and special places is brought together to enjoy; inform; and inspire all who love New York.

Something is amissBy HellseekerI have read too much "true confessions" (especially about musicians) created by people who have no clue about the creative force these people are channeling. So; since Im a big fan of Nick Cave; that book was a major disappointment for me. Im not interested if the person was stoned out of his mind during an interview; or if any kind of other "indecent" behavior was witnessed. To publish such observations is only to serve the public need for tabloid news. On the other hand we had the ever present pseudo philosophical nonsense some people write down; when they are in the presence of a true genius. So please look some place else for real insight into the artist Nick Cave. I should have known it better when a book title contains the words "true" and "confession" that something might be amiss here.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great for fans; a bit difficult as a essay sourceBy AlgirdasI bought this for my girlfriend whos writing her bachelor essay about Nick Caves first novel as a info source. As a fan of him; shes loving it: the pictures are great; the interviews are from different year; containing different topics and different thoughts. The only minus of this book is its hard to use it as a source for the essay; as it doesnt have an index in the back: as only information about the novel is needed (and theres not a lot of it in the book); its a bit time-consuming to read the whole book to find the pieces needed. Still we recommend it to every Caves fan out there: it really opens up the mind of the creator; letting you know the personality a lot better than you would from his music; novels and public behaviour.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Solid interviews spanning his career.By paulaI liked this book. Slow in areas; but very good interviews and it kind of shows his change in attitude through out the years. Worth the read if youre a Bad Seeds/Grinderman fan. Good stuff.
