How to paint your world in watercolorhellip;and have fun doing it! The day Sterling Edwards watched an artist paint an entire sky with three deft brushstrokes was the day he committed to trading his tiny oil brushes and photorealistic style in favor of big; bold strokes of watercolor. In the years since; hes developed not only a wonderfully fresh; luminous painting style; but also an approach that takes the intimidation out of this beautiful but often-mystifying medium. In this book; he shares both. Initial chapters lay the foundation for successful paintings; from choosing the right brushes to achieving vibrant colors; interesting textures and strong compositions. Step-by-step demonstrations illustrate techniques for painting rocks; skies; trees; foliage; buildings; water and other landscape elements. An easy-to-follow; four-step painting process makes for easier starts and stronger finishes; complete with rich darks and sparkling highlights. Eight complete painting projects cover a range of breathtaking scenes and seasons. Whether youre dipping into the medium for the first time or youre a watercolor devotee on a quest for clearer color and more personal statements; this book will help you make the most of the time you spend with brush in hand.

I am glad they cancellation of the order did not go through. I have read most of the books by Tony Hillerman and I enjoyed all of them. This book was very interesting and informative. I will look forward to enjoying more of Anne Hillermans stories as long as she keeps writing in the same style as her father including the information about the tribes of the South West.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. It could have been awesomeBy LaserguyI am about half way through the book and thoroughly enjoying the text but as others have noted. the printing is very sad. Some of the photos are almost indecipherable. It may be that the format is just too small for many of them but all are dark. Having seen much of this country and its beauty. this just doesnt cut it. The book is worthwhile for the concept and text content but misses the boat on the photos.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Seldom Disappointed - But I Was with This BookBy Jackie LoopI was looking forward to the advertised photos of a beautiful country. Ive traveled through New Mexico and live in the West. I very much appreciate this land. However. the photos have a smudged and dark quality that fails to capture the essence of the West. Other reviews of the book echo this flaw. so presumably I did not receive a bad printing. I will keep the book for its directions to the landscapes - someday Id like to travel to see the sites mentioned for myself.
