Touch and Go: A Play in Three Acts

[ePub] Touch and Go: A Play in Three Acts by D. H. (David Herbert) Lawrence at Arts-Photography

Description

In 1886; the state-of-the-art surgery room of Truman W. Miller; MD; in Chicagos first childrens hospital had no electric lights; no antibiotics; limited equipment; and only the most rudimentary anesthesia. This renowned surgeon served on a voluntary basis as president of an all-volunteer medical staff from 1882 to 1900. The hospital opened in 1882 as an eight-bed cottage in Lincoln Park; when pediatrics was in its infancy. It was at the forefront then; and it continues to be among the countrys best. For over a century; it was called Childrens Memorial Hospital; and it was renamed Ann Robert H. Lurie Childrens Hospital of Chicago in 2012; when it moved to a 288-bed facility in the heart of the city. The hospitals history reflects the steady advances in pediatrics; propelled by visionary individuals; pioneering clinicians; and the community--all dedicated to the care and well-being of children.

Its really just a bunch of random memories; through his life; that are loosely organized into chapters that encapsulate the respective memories. It is just so random after he addresses a few key points; that is; why did he leave The Stranglers; how the band was started; time in prison. However its worth reading if you like The Stranglers and Hughs solo work. Its cool to read how the band began in the 70s and worked into the 80s. It was a different time without digital media. He has quite a few stories to tell and some very questionable judgement at times (harboring a friend/armed robber a couple of times). Its a nice quick easy read and of course his and the bands work is unquestionably the star and main interest. I would have liked to have seen a little more introspection from Hugh. He has a book going over each song so that might be a good place to see more into his thinking. The songs arent necessarily deep but they are often articulate and he has a way of expressing complex ideas simply..."But who gets the jobOf pushing the knob? That sort of responsibilityYou draw straws for if youre mad enough"But if you watch his interviews on youtube you can see how he is; pretty much just doesnt let things bother him too much and doesnt dwell on things; the how and why. Im a big fan and its a fun read though he could have done better but that would be asking him not not be Hugh. :)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Tour de ForceBy James MowatThe old campaigner looks back and there is much to cover in a rock n roll life. He writes well in a stream of conscious narrative; weaving tales and milestones together under memoir headings rather than strict chronology. Its a good read with no sugar coating. Life in the Stranglers wasnt for the faint of heart nor what would now be considered PC. He seems a better man since leaving the band and shares his intelligent reflections well.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. really fun read that made me want to explore and revisit ...By CALIGERRYmost rock star bios dont have the depth humor and keen insight as this book from former strangler hugh cornwell.being that the band never broke real big in America I didnt realize how big and important they were elsewhere.really fun read that made me want to explore and revisit the original stranglers lineups music.
