I usually rely on others reviews but decided to take a chance on this as the cover and title piqued my interest.This book is easily the worse book on the subject I have seen. The illustrations are all black and white sketches by the author. The drawings are incredibly amateurish and superficial and the written material is basic. The chapter on drapery is especially valuable; since the topic is overlooked in most art schools today. I have read this book several times and always learn something new. The full lesson of Mysteries of Still Life unfolds through repeated readings and practice. Mr. Gold shares helpful details focussed by having taught art classes to a wide range of student skill levels over many years.
