The only compact yet comprehensive survey of environmental and cultural forces that have shaped the visual character and geographical diversity of the settled American landscape. The book examines the large-scale historical influences that have molded the varied human adaptation of the continentrsquo;s physical topography to its needs over more than 500 years. It presents a synoptic view of myriad historical processes working together or in conflict; and illustrates them through their survival in or disappearance from the everyday landscapes of today.

It will answer your questions whether a rule has any relevance any longer or is just part of an old practice that doesnt matter for more modern compositions. The book also suggests additional; really useful rules and simplifies and clarifies other based on statistics from highly praised compositions. This is clearly one of the best music books Ive ever read and I recommend it to everyone interested in a more causal description of voice leading than a set of rules to follow blindly.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
