Understanding Architecture Through Drawing

[audiobook] Understanding Architecture Through Drawing by Brian Edwards in Arts-Photography

Description

Video games open portals to fantastical worlds where imaginative play and enchantment prevail. These virtual settings afford us considerable freedom to act out with relative impunity. Or do they? Sound Play explores the aesthetic; ethical; and sociopolitical stakes of peoples creative engagements with gamings audio phenomena-from sonorous violence to synthesized operas; from democratic music-making to vocal sexual harassment. William Cheng shows how video games empower their designers; composers; players; critics; and scholars to tinker (often transgressively) with practices and discourses of music; noise; speech; and silence. Faced with collisions between utopian and alarmist stereotypes of video games; Sound Play synthesizes insights across musicology; sociology; anthropology; communications; literary theory; philosophy; and additional disciplines. With case studies spanning Final Fantasy VI; Silent Hill; Fallout 3; The Lord of the Rings Online; and Team Fortress 2; this book insists that what we do in there-in the safe; sound spaces of games-can ultimately teach us a great deal about who we are and what we value (musically; culturally; humanly) out here. The book has really amazing Illustrations; which led to discussions about the picturesBy AmandaI purchased the book Natural Disasters; what Why 1st grade Geography Series first grade books. Here is my review; this book is about natural disasters. The book has really amazing Illustrations; which led to discussions about the pictures. For example there is a great picture of a hurricane from space. With the illustrations there is some text that talks about how a huge storm cloud is formed. We found that to be very interesting. The book also has great short definitions for topics like earthquake; hurricane; cyclone; tornado; volcanic eruption. It gives just enough information so that little learners will be able to grasp the information being told; and it is done in a very easy way. Perfect for first graders. The first natural disaster we read about it is tropical cyclone. What I really liked about it is that there is a picture to go along with the text. This is great as first graders are really visual learners and as I read about them they were able to look at the picture and hear all about cyclone. This was great as it really grabbed their attention. All the information that was given was very age appropriate; and will give first graders a good idea about natural disasters and some of the damages they may cause. I received this book at a discounted rate or for free in exchange for my honest review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great photos with basic informationBy Customer25This is a really great book for kids. My son loves to read non-fiction. This book is great for kindergarten and first graders. This book is actually below my first graders reading level; but he still enjoyed it as a quick read. The pictures are really great. The colors are vibrant and beautiful. Each page has a magnificent photograph and a few sentences about the topic. The topics in this book range from hurricanes; earthquakes; tsunamis; volcanoes; and droughts. There are not a lot of details about each of these things; but there is enough information for young readers and kids without long attention spans. The words in this book are a little difficult for beginning readers. They may need some help with this book.I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A very detailed 1st grade look at natural disasters...By iProDroneCertainly a detailed book on just what can go wrong in life. Natural disasters are of course an everyday life occurrence globally; so children naturally need to learn about them. I do wonder if some of the images are a little too strong for children of first grade. One particular page shows what looks like an entire community about to be washed away by a giant tsunami wave (possibly even two waves). That said; just as the title of the book says; its all about natural disasters; and thats what this book is full of; whether its text/content explaining them; or detailed photos of them (sometimes real life examples it seems). Book clocks in at 19pgs (just like the authors other books). I did receive this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. Happy to answer any questions anyone has.
