Promoted as a lsquo;disturbingly perfectrsquo; and lsquo;deeply shallowrsquo; television drama and created by Ryan Murphy; who is also behind the teen musical show Glee; Nip/Tuck has been one of the most popular and controversial shows on cable TV. The misadventures and soap opera-esque entanglements of the lives of plastic surgeons Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) and Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) won Golden Globes and boycotts from the American Family Association. Yet; as this first full critical examination of Nip/Tuck shows; ironically the show is an examination of the American family and its many definitions; anxieties and complications of gender and sexuality; and the class issues and illusions surrounding the American dream. It is also revealed as a glorious televisual melodrama; full of Gothic tropes and contemporary sensationalism and at the same time; a deeply misanthropic satire on the American dream with a sometimes highly problematic portrayal of women and minorities. The book also features an interview with frequent Nip/Tuck director Elodie Keene and an episode guide.

It was great remembering all of the horrible and not-so-horrible outfits that made the 80s so memorable. It was fun to go back down memory lane with Ms. Halpern -- realizing that all of us girls from that era were having the same issues no matter where we lived. I also appreciated how she deals with clothes issues right now. Ive often looked at girls younger than me with the same thoughts (hello - belly over the jean look) and laughed when I read that Ms. Halpern did too. If you relate to clothes - youll love this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Loved it!By CustomerI loved every little bit of this book. I felt like the story line flowed well. It was a quick read; and I really couldnt put it down. It was funny and light hearted. I just went through a really sad breakup; which has left me in the dumps and a friend suggested I read two books... Persuasion by Jane Austen and this book. Both were great! The book talks about Fashion; yes; but its mush more than that. It talks about not being a follower; finding yourself; making and keeping best friends; having a strong relationship with your family; and finally it talks about dating. What I really respected about "Dean" was that she never settled. And being born and raised in LA; and now living in PA; I really related to this book geographically especially the fitting room story at Bloomingdales at the Bev Center!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. easy readBy T.
