I love the old patterns. and have books from my grandmother dating back to the 1920s. Some reviewers mentioned that directions in old patterns may be somewhat unclear. I found that with a little work and a little imagination that problem can be overcome. I assume these reviewers probably have not worked with really old patterns. Try them! Im sure you will find them challenging. I love the history she provides and the materials suggestions she offers. I had to learn from trial and error which materials work best. I. too. knitted soakers for my children--when soakers were unheard of!! I wish I had know about the lanolin treatment she recommends. I believe anyone who enjoys vintage baby clothes and working with vintage patterns would like this book in their library.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A great book for unique baby knitsBy Nathan WilliamsI love this book! I only wish I knew more people with small children to make the items for. I purchased it for one pattern in particular. the Jasper hooded cardigan. but ended up falling in love with nearly every pattern. One of the great details I like is all the extra information about the state of knitting in each decade from the 20s on.Its also quite apparent that Rengren put a lot of effort into this book. As knitting has evolved so much. she needed to spend a lot of time reworking the patterns to work with todays techniques. yarns. etc. This is a great book to add to your collection. Im sure that any recipient would treasure every stitch of your knitted gifts from this book!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
