I have come to really like the writing style of Baby ProfessorBy AmandaI was given the opportunity to review the book Volcanoes Earthquakes; What Why? 2nd grade book. Here is my review: I have come to really like the writing style of Baby Professor. We now have many of her books added to our collection. I have come to expect the following things from her books. Stunning pictures and a larger vocabulary for the attended audience. Both of those things are true with this book. The pictures are truly amazing. I think I would hang some up in my house if they were posters. Really beautiful. As for the book I think that it is a great interdiction into volcanoes and earthquakes. I really did enjoy this book; and so did my kids. The material that is presented most 2nd graders will understand; some of the vocabulary they may need help with. I really like how the pictures have great and factual information that goes along with them. As always I like asking my kids what there favorite part of the book was. This allows me to see what they remembered from the book; and how much information they learned plus it lets me see how excited they are about the information that was presented to them. Really this is one of my favorite things to do. I was surprised to hear their responses. They remembered learning about dormant volcanoes. They talked about they loved the picture of the volcano erupting. My youngest asked if we could go really see one; which my oldest responded oh no; it would be too hot. I liked the open discussion the pictures helped to create. I felt that the book did a really good job of describing how volcanoes are formed; in a way that kids can understand it. My daughter was really interested in earthquakes. I really liked how the book explained earthquakes. It describes that an earthquake can be a simple rumbling to a shaking or rolling of the earthrsquo;s surface. We really did like this book; and I found it to be a great educational tool. I highly recommend it to everyone. I was given the opportunity to review this item in exchange for my honest review; and I received this book at a discounted rate or free in exchange for my honest review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Another "Baby Professor" ebook with great pictures (and typos as well....)By ElizabethI do like this ebook and the ebooks in this "Baby Professor" series. There are about 200 of them and they are either free or .99cent;. For that I give most them 4 and 5 stars. However; are there issues with some of the books that include grammatical errors; obvious typos; redundancy; using very big words for the target audience but not explaining what the big words mean and some just seem to have random facts in no particular order. Also; some of the fun facts are great but the picture doesnt pertain to that particular fact. The worst mistake Ive seen though is in the Whale book when they say that only whales and manatee live their entire lives in the ocean. They left out dolphin and porpoise for some odd reason? That did get me thinking are these facts correct? You see a sample of each book by clicking on "Look Inside" button by the picture of the book in the top left corner of the main product page. This particular book; I do like (its free) except again; there is at least one typo. Big deal? No; but the editor should catch these mistakes. Also; some of the facts just seem very random and not organized very well. It also seems their may be better facts to put inside the book as well.Despite all that I still give it 4 stars because I love the pictures and the fact that it gets my kids looking and talking about different subjects. I can easily pull these up on the iPad during down times (doctor visits; sports games and practice when the sibling is playing; or just at the house for something short and easy to flip through.)Overall; I still do like this book and the books in the series.*****I received this ebook for free in exchange for my honest review.*****1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great pictures and facts about volcanoes and earthquakesBy Duck MDVolcanoes and earthquakes what and why: 2nd grade science series. I really like this book. I think that it is a great introduction into more details about volcanoes and earthquakes. The material is presented in language that most 2nd graders will be able to understand. I am glad that I have this book in my collection; and recommend it to others. This book has good pictures and great factual information. Warning this review contains spoilers. This book starts out with a description of where earthquakes and volcanoes occur; at the boundaries of the plates that form the earthrsquo;s surface. We are first introduced to volcanoes. This book has seven great pictures of volcanoes. Some of the pictures show dormant volcanoes. Other pictures show volcanoes that are actively erupting. The pictures are high quality and prompt good discussion. The pictures have good color contrast; you can clearly identify what is happening in the picture. This book does a good job of describing how volcanoes are formed. It explains that as volcanoes continue to erupt they get bigger releasing gas; ash and lava. I am glad that this book defines lava and magma as liquid rock in a way that second graders can understand. They clearly state the difference between the two. I learned something new. Now we explore earthquakes. This book describes the many different forms that an earthquake can take; from a simple rumbling to a shaking or rolling of the earthrsquo;s surface. We are told that more than a million earthquakes happen every year. This makes them seem common and less scary to young children. Again they show 7 different pictures of damage caused by earthquakes. I like these pictures. They show different types of damage; ranging from damage to roads; to damage of buildings and land. We are introduced to the term seismology the study of earthquakes; and told that about a tool the seismograph that scientists use to study earthquakes. I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review. However at the time of this review the kindle version is free to everyone.
