I believe the author(s) should have gone into more detail regarding the amount of manufacturing jobs lost in the city over the years. San Leandro had several large manufacturing firms that are no longer there. Friden; Dodge vehicles; the old Chevrolet plant near the Oakland border to name just a few were hardly named. These businesses were the backbone of the city in the 1950s and 1960s. I grew up in San Lorenzo and it was unheard of to not someone who did not work at one of these businesses.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Very Informative About My HometownBy L. M. AmacherAs a native of San Leandro (born; raised; and went to school in S.L.); I was very impressed with not only the old photographs; but also the historical information that went with the photos. There was only one error in the book. On page 120 where it shows the two high schools that were built to accomodate baby-boomer children; the informative paragraph that goes with the two pictures has it backwards. The school on top is the old Marina High School (in book it is listed as Pacific High School) and the school at the bottom is the old Pacific High School (the book listed it as Marina High School). Other than that; the book is a treasure trove of San Leandro history.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Whats not to like?By chez4443Its my home town; so I guess Im biased -- LOL!
