Description

WIth full-color illustrations throughoutFrom the best-selling author of Sexual Personae and Break; Blow; Burn and one of our most acclaimed cultural critics; here is an enthralling journey through Western artrsquo;s defining moments; from the ancient Egyptian tomb of Queen Nefertari to George Lucasrsquo;s volcano planet duel in Revenge of the Sith.Americarsquo;s premier intellectual provocateur returns to the subject that brought her fame; the great themes of Western art. Passionately argued; brilliantly written; and filled with Pagliarsquo;s trademark audacity; Glittering Images takes us on a tour through more than two dozen seminal images; some famous and some obscure or unknownmdash;paintings; sculptures; architectural styles; performance pieces; and digital art that have defined and transformed our visual world. She combines close analysis with background information that situates each artist and image within its historical contextmdash;from the stone idols of the Cyclades to an elegant French rococo interior to Jackson Pollockrsquo;s abstract Green Silver to Reneacute;e Coxrsquo;s daring performance piece Chillinrsquo; with Liberty. And in a stunning conclusion; she declares that the avant-garde tradition is dead and that digital pioneer George Lucas is the worldrsquo;s greatest living artist. Written with energy; erudition; and wit; Glittering Images is destined to change the way we think about our high-tech visual environment. From the Hardcover edition.

Excellent Discourse on Wabi Sabi.By GraehoundA great overview to the ideology and influence of wabi sabi without becoming overwhelming. this is succinct. thoughtful text that will benefit anyone who wants to have a better understanding of and appreciation for the acceptance of imperfection and mortality in all things. I highly recommend this text to all who are brittle Type As (much like myself) and would benefit from both a micro and macro perspective shift that will allow increased productivity and peace from learning to value the flux and lack of control within life.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. EXPLAINS THE ALMOST INEXPLICABLEBy SALLY DICKTERMost articulate and engrossing insight into the concept of wabi sabi. by a knowledgeable and talented author. Know I better understand the qualities that have always appealed to me in handmade pottery and other art works. It seemed impossible to capture the spirit and power of such a Zen idea in words. but this author succeeded.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
