A Special Edition with a New Introduction and an Updated DiscographyThis is Greil Marcuss acclaimed book on the secret music made by Bob Dylan and the Band in 1967; which introduced a phrase that has become part of the culture: "the old; weird America." It is this country that the book mapsmdash;the "playground of God; Satan; tricksters; Puritans; confidence men; illuminati; braggarts; preachers; anonymous poets of all stripes" (Luc Sante; New York magazine). In honor of Dylans seventieth birthday; this special edition includes a new introduction; an updated discography; and a cover featuring never-before-seen photographs of the legendary recording sessions.

Great for teachers who are looking for a method book to teach this skill to their students. as well as for beginnersand intermediate players who want to teach themselves. Great playing on the clearly recorded play-along mp3s. too! Highly recommended.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Dan AustinBy Daniel M. AustinI am a performing jazz keyboardist. learning how to play a Hammond B3. A jazz organist needs a strong left hand primarily to play walking bass lines. (Jazz trios with organist rarely have a bass player.) So this book was really helpful to teach me practical techniques and approaches. I read it in one sitting and really enjoyed the content. Now its time to start at the beginning. at the organ to practice the exercises. Also the suggested listening list was a real bonus!I purchased this as a Kindle book so I was disappointed that I dont have access (that I know of) to the practice CD.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Good. solid instruction!By -RycoWell worth the price of one lesson!!!!!An excellent book showing how to build a solid foundation walking bass line through harmonic progressions.Ive only started this book. but am going through it very slowly so as to completely absorb each idea before moving on to the next.Fuqua STRONGLY emphasizes HEARING what is going on and learning so completely that you can get your mind out of the way on an intellectual level and actually PLAY what you wish to express.I am using this book to get past reading chord charts and spontaneously play along with any song/harmonic progression "on the fly". I have done a lot of transcription of melodies and found that tactic to be of not much help. My goal is to hear CHANGES and react musically.
