As a Chicana myself who is an aspiring writer (artist); Alma Lopezs work has greatly inspired my journey. The book itself involves analysis of her art as well as the many interpretations and writers of people such as Sandra Cisneros. As someone who grew deeply Catholic and who greatly identifies with La Virgen de Guadalupe but who is also queer; I find that Alma Lopezs artwork bridges the two identities to create the reality than many women like myself face. Absolutely incredible. The people who are giving it negative reviews do not understand the art.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. No controversy in enjoying this book.By Shimon de ValenciaBy presenting an expansive and detailed history; Ms de Alba has illuminated a difficult issue with sensitivity; balance and understanding of the issues raised in the Our Lady controversy. What emerges is a lively; entertaining and enlightening read.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great historical reviewBy CustomerThe Catholic Church and its administrators have been hiding their despicable behavior behind the veneer of a religious icon meant to represent the very people they have duped.
