[ePub] Walt before Mickey: Disney's Early Years; 1919-1928 by Timothy S. Susanin; Diane Disney Miller at Arts-Photography

Description

In our chaotic world of co-opted imagery; does art still have power?A fog of images and information permeates the world nowadays: from advertising; television; radio; and film to the glut produced by the new economy and the rise of social media . . . where even our friends suddenly seem to be selling us the ultimate product: themselves. Here; Nato Thompsonmdash;one of the countryrsquo;s most celebrated young curators and criticsmdash;investigates what this deluge means for those dedicated to socially engaged art and activism. How can anyone find a voice and make change in a world flooded with such pseudo-art? How are we supposed to discern whatrsquo;s true in the product emanating from the ceaseless machine of consumer capitalism; a machine that appropriates from art history; and now from the methods of grassroots political organizing and even social networking? Thompsonrsquo;s invigorating answers to those questions highlights the work of some of the most innovative and interesting artists and activists working today; as well as institutions that empower their communities to see power and reimagine it. From cooperative housing to anarchist infoshops to alternative art venues; Seeing Power reveals ways that art today can and does inspire innovation and dramatic transformation . . . perhaps as never before.

Exhaustively Researched History of Walt Before the MouseBy RayThis book is a very interesting bio of Walts early life as an animator and filmmaker before the creation of Mickey Mouse. This book is exhaustively researched. and while this book is informative and interesting the amount and degree of research is its one weak point. There is way too much time spent detailing various aspects of extraneous information that offer very little valuable information about early Walt. Do we really need to know ancestral information about every person early Walt interacted with or where everyone lived in relation to the studio? Even with that said. this book is interesting and should be on every Disney fans reading list.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Details of Disney. not highlights.By SarahNot much into biographies. had to get one for a school project (subject... psychology). Reading the biographies (yes. bought another one as I needed to have certain information to write a report. and the first one did not contain what was needed.) with a purpose behind the reading made them enjoyable to me. If you just want to read it for knowledge of the person or how hard getting your dream started can be. this is a good book. Having the knowledge of failures. progression. setbacks. and opportunities provides a well rounded individual and someone unattainable.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Walt Disneys humble beginningsBy michael gotianunJust to show the wide audience that Walt Disneys start was not like the make believe world of rosy easy happy endings. He went thru a lot to be successful. try and try again. dogged determination to succeed and deserved the success at the end. It can be a business book inspirational reading for the future businessman. Like some saying from I forgot who. success is 90% hard work and only 10% luck.
