Wasting Time on the Internet

[PDF] Wasting Time on the Internet by Kenneth Goldsmith at Arts-Photography

Description

In Why the Grateful Dead Matter; veteran writer and lifelong Deadhead Michael Benson argues that the Grateful Dead are not simply a successful rock-and-roll band but a phenomenon central to American culture. He defends the proposition that the Grateful Dead are; in fact; a musical movement as transformative as any -ism in the artistic history of this century and the last. And a lot more fun than most. From the street festivals of Haight-Ashbury to the cross-country acid tests with the Merry Pranksters; and from the sound-and-light show at the Great Pyramid at Giza to the ecstatic outpouring of joy at Soldier Field in the summer of rsquo;15; the Grateful Dead have been at the center of American life; music; and karmic flow for fifty years. In Why the Grateful Dead Matter; Michael Benson brings it all back to life and makes a compelling case for the bandrsquo;s lasting cultural importance.

What a phenomenal read - drawing parallels between the internet and surrealists and and and...Even though I LOVE wasting time on the internet all day long. Not what I expected...By ThikacatThis is sort of interesting -- but it is not light reading. It is an attempt at an academic analysis of the impact that the Internet is having on the evolution of our culture.I expected an amusing. thoughtful but not heavy. read. I was way off.Goldsmith has an interesting thesis. I guess. but he reaches way too far trying to prove it. I am still not sure what "it" is. and I have a couple of Masters Degrees. I admit that I skimmed some of the chapters as they get repetitive. I was disappointed.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good book. Self-fulfilling prophecy it seemsBy CustomerGood book. Self-fulfilling prophecy it seems. as the book itself starts to waste time on the internet. meandering through tangents and weird ideas. until it reaches its own conclusion.
