Woonsocket (Images of America)

[ebooks] Woonsocket (Images of America) by Robert R Bellerose at Arts-Photography

Description

The Outer Banks of North Carolina have been a destination for seasonal visitors since Algonkian Indians hunted and fished on the islands. In 1584; English explorers arrived and before long were promoting the area as a land of natural abundance and beauty; pleasant weather; and kindly natives. Not much has changed in that respect. By the beginning of the 20th century; visitors and residents alike were using postcards to share the things that make the Outer Banks unique with family and friends in other places.

I am in my mid sixties and I spent most of my life in Woonsocket and like any old mill city. many changes have taken place.I also found that many of the pictures had been donated by a former employee. Gerge Brin. who I have known my entire life.I wish the book would have had a few pages dedicated to stories about the city. nontheless. the pictures speak a million words. I would recommend the book to someone who has connections to Woonsocket. Paul Lesperance ( N Smithfield Naples. FL.)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I was surprised to find this book!By Karen KelemenHaving been born in the small town of Woonsocket RI I was surprised to find a book written about the history of the town and its people. Doing my family tree in Ancestry.com I found alot of my ancestors lived in Woonsocket and worked in the Rubber Shops and Worsted Mills there. I can now suppliment my knowledge of their lives by reading this book. I havent read the book yet but I know I will enjoy it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book!By Roberta HansonExcellent compilation of pictures showing Woonsocket RI. It would have been helpful to show a "then and now" explanation or picture since most of the locations shown have changed drastically due to natural disasters. fires. or in the name of progress.
