An icon of Southern California and one of Americas most imaginative and vibrant cities--the fitting destination at the end of Route 66--Santa Monica lies on the brink of the West and is known throughout the nation for its beaches and its Hollywood A-list locals With a foundation built by the Gabrielino Indians and molded by Spanish and Mexican land grants; railroad battles; and a constant influx of settlers; Santa Monica became an oceanside haven for actors and airplane companies; road races and ranchers.

This book really has little to do with the everyday ...By Bob HillThis book really has little to do with the everyday life of the people of Atlanta during The War. In my opinion. it was hastily compiled from online sources and devotes far too much ink to FDR. ship building on the Georgia coast and a recurring theme of civil rights issues. When I ordered the book. I was more than hopeful that It would provide coverage of Lt. Denver Truelove of Lula. Ga. Truelove was a bombardier on the storied Doolittle Raid on Tokyo just a few months after Pearl Harbor. After the raid. he returned home to a heros welcome for the summer of 1942. During that time. he was featured at many War Bond sales in Atlanta which were reported quite numerously by the Atlanta papers. Truelove was KIA in 1943 but not before achieving martyrdom in north Georgia. A credible work on the titled subject would have included Truelove.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Atlanta during the warBy cww1950I highly recommend this book to the history buff who is interested in the Atlanta area during World War 2. It is not a complete history of the period. but the pictures and verbiage gives a flavor of the period and the wars effect on the area.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
