New York City Jazz explores many of the haunts and hideaways that have played host to iconic jazz musicians and singers like Charlie Parker; Miles Davis; John Coltrane; Bill Evans; Billie Holiday; Dizzy Gillespie; and Lester Young. Considered the jazz capital of the world; New York City is known for its flashy venues. The stages of the Latin Quarter; Apollo Theater; Mintons Playhouse; Onyx; Stork Club; Downbeat Club; Birdland; Roseland; and Copacabana came to life with the sounds of pianos; drums; horns; and gypsy guitars. This collection of images presents why Fifty-second Street was nicknamed Swing Street and how musicians made timeless names for themselves in the Empire City.

All Musicians Can Benefit from MIDIBy Dave"Basic MIDI" is a great primer to the ins outs ( thrus) of MIDI as a tool for any experienced or aspiring musician. The book itself is a pocket-sized reference that has current information regarding the technology and proven techniques that professionals are using today.Paul White has written book that is very easy to read and understand; and he takes the time to explain the technical terms as he introduces them.Again; I feel this book is a must-have for any musician and is the first on the subject to cover such a wide-variety of instrumentation that MIDI has now become a part of.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This book was about everything except what I needed to ...By CustomerThis book was about everything except what I needed to know; MIDI for guitar players. I have rack gear and MIDI stomp boxes; a MIDI expression pedal and a MIDI foot controller. I am totally in the dark as to how to get all these to work together and this book was of no help. If youre a guitar player in my situation then you need to look elsewhere.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great introBy E. F. ParedesExcellent introduction to MIDI for those of us who are tech-challenged / just want to get to the music. I appreciate the author getting down to business and presenting the info in a very straightforward but not too dumbed-down language. Id recommend this book to anyone like me who is interested in getting into electronic music but who comes from another musical background (for me its guitar). Nice price too.
