The first settlers began arriving in the Wilmington region in the early 1800s. Less than a decade later; in 1810; Wilmington was chosen as the county seat for the newly formed Clinton County. Although the area has long been known for its agricultural productivity; Wilmington�s rich and diverse history includes a territorial governor and Civil War general; a world-renowned sculptor; a musician who performed for years on the Delta Queen; and a Major League Baseball club owner. Wilmington has also been home to several Underground Railroad stops; a Quaker college; an experimental World War II glider base; and a cold war missile site. Twice named one of the �Best Small Towns in America;� Wilmington continues to delight visitors with its stately historic buildings and its small-town charm.

I wanted to see what kind of community she grew up in. It gave me some insight into my heritage since I have been working on my Family Tree for about 6-7 years now. I read this book before I visited Yorktown. Its a small town and I found that my great grandparents were an integral part of the community in their day. I discovered that my grandmothers father-in-law helped build the San Luis Catholic Church in this town and that my great grandmother was a midwife and delivered many during her life in Yorktown. I even visited the San Luis Catholic Cemetery where many of my ancestors are buried. I was able to help clean some of the burial spots and learned the history behind each individual. I even discovered and met distant relatives that still live in Yorktown! I recommend it if you have ancestry or family in Yorktown especially if you grew up in a big city like Houston which I did.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A look into Nordheim.
