Theres more than one way to skin a theatrical cat; and McDonaghs chosen weapons are laughter and gore... Pushing theatre to its limits; McDonagh is making a serious point... a work as subversive as those Synge and OCasey plays that sparked Dublin riots in the last century GuardianA brave satire... Swiftianly savage and parodic... with explicit brutal actino and lines which sing with grace and wit ObserverWho knocked Mad Padraics cat over on a lonely road on the island of Inishmore and was it an accident? Hell want to know when he gets back from a stint of torture and chip-shop bombing in Northern Ireland: he loves his cat more than life itself. The Lieutenant of Inishmore is a brilliant satire on terrorism; a powerful corrective to the beautification of violence in contemporary culture; and a hilarious farce. It premiered at the RSCs The Other Place; Stratford-upon-Avon; in May 2001.Commentary and notes by Patrick Lonergan

Peggy Hadden has really put together some profound quotes on all aspects of art and its process to help you in tight spots like inspiration; colour theory; planning; sketching etc.I have searched through many online quotations banks before I bought this thinking I could short cut this book; but its not as easy as it sounds for you have to understand the context that the artist was quoted and what was his point and often; you dont know enough to make those connections. This book allows a shortcut; a breviary; to great artists quotes. The ability to stand and learn from them and see and learn art from them. When the quote is not complete; Ms Hadden puts in the context. For each chapter she gives some context on why this is important also.No one is an artist unless he carries his picture in his head long before painting it so is sure of his method and composition. Claude Monet; artist. To me that quote and so many like that; helped me tremendously in my creative process. Its a rare gem. I found that her book on the Artists quest for Inspiration was a good handbook to work with this one as well. Two fine books. I have not read the others.
